“If a man has an apartment stacked to the ceiling with newspapers we call him crazy. If a woman has a trailer house full of cats we call her nuts. But when people pathologically hoard so much cash that they impoverish the entire nation, we put them on the cover of Fortune magazine and pretend that they are role models.”

All My Aliens - Sci-Fi Soap Opera #97

Serial StoryBy Blue1Moon
AlienLove.com Editor

A shiver of fear raced through Barbara’s body as she heard the approaching helicopters, the sound of speedboats had already been heard coming their way. Her family and alien friends seemed in no way prepared for such an onslaught. Mostly she worried about Al and her parents, though Joe and Amy seemed to be taking the situation in stride, at least as much as was possible considering the circumstances.

Barbara held Al close, to his great annoyance, and Dave came over and put his arm around her. Everyone heard the helicopters land – or rather the cut off of their engines. Within moments, Shadow, Silver and Peanut set-up a fearful amount of growling, neighing and howling – while it sounded menacing, it was nerve-wracking even for their friends.

Movement was spotted in the woods between them and the lake, and forms were soon discernable. Several had the appearance of being human, and two were obviously alien, but three wolves led the charge.

Al struggled to see, while Barbara tried to push him down behind the invisible ship. Shadow and Peanut immediately raced forward to meet the wolves, Joe managed to get off a shot that took out one of the three...

Dave moved away from Barbara, pushing Amy toward her daughter and grandson at the same time. Joining Grrphh, the two used devices that set off a couple soundless explosions in front of the attacking Examinator agents. The result was a huge trench between them and their attackers. The wolves had already made it past the trench, but Shadow had taken one down, and with the help of a hard kick from Silver, Peanut was able to put the other one out of action.

They had a brief respite, but there were sounds of new arrivals joining the Examinator ranks. Grrphh and Dave knew they would not be able to hold their enemies off for long.

Al yelled out, excitement in his voice, “Hey, look at this, everyone! You won’t believe it! I got the door to the ship open, all by myself! It’s really cool, and nothing is invisible inside! Can we go in? It might be safer, you know!”

Grrphh nodded to Dave, who entered the ship and temporarily disabled it. It was possible that the Examinators might be able to control it without the crew. He then hurried Barbara and her family inside, with a strong admonition to touch no buttons or switches.

Barbara tried to insist that Dave, Grrphh and the animals join them. But Dave refused, telling her that since she was the apparent prize, keeping her and her family safe was critical. Peanut would not cross the threshold of the alien ship - whining in fright, and so ended up taking a stand with the aliens.

While Al delightedly began exploring, Barbara and her parents tried to listen for any sign of what was going on outside. When Al yelled out that he had found windows, the family gathered around the screens exhibiting all angles of view outside the ship. They soon found themselves mesmerized.

Amy and Joe watched in silent horror at the enemies quickly surrounding their position, more seemed to be arriving from every direction. Dave, Grrphh, the alien animals, and Peanut stood bravely, but the situation looked increasingly hopeless.

Al started jumping up and down, telling his mother and grandparents, “Look! Peanut and Shadow are wagging their tails!” The animals attitude did seem to have changed, then Glaboo, and her O&N agents crashed through a section of the circle closing around them. Al shouted in excitement, “Mom! Do you see them? Everything’s gotta be okay now, it’s re-in-forcements! That’s Glaboo! I saw her once, you know!”

Barbara smiled at her son, then looked at her parents, “He’s right! These are friends! Maybe we’ve got a chance afterall!”

Few of the O&N agents were in human form, there had been no time for the niceties of Quick Morph. Joe and Amy didn’t appear much relieved at the site of their hopeful rescuers.

Glaboo knew she needed to end this quickly, it could not be long before Earth authorities began arriving. She didn’t even want to think about the implications of a major incident. O&N’s work here would be severely compromised, should this situation become public knowledge.

Glaboo had received some training from her Eldestan father, and had some of the innate abilities of that race – she could only hope it would be enough.
