“If a man has an apartment stacked to the ceiling with newspapers we call him crazy. If a woman has a trailer house full of cats we call her nuts. But when people pathologically hoard so much cash that they impoverish the entire nation, we put them on the cover of Fortune magazine and pretend that they are role models.”

All My Aliens - Sci-Fi Soap Opera #103

Serial StoryBy Blue1Moon
AlienLove.com Editor

Shadow and Silver rejoined the group quickly after giving their warning - there was no more time for discussion. Before Barbara even turned to speak to her parents, one of Glaboo’s agents, waiting on stand-by, acted. Time, place, and sensation blurred strangely for a moment, then they were all somewhere else.

Al screeched in joyous delight as he realized what had happened. Joe and Amy’s gasps of surprise followed. Barbara gathered her family together to explain what was going on, “I know this is rather unexpected - perhaps even shocking, but we’re safe here on O&N's Mothership, at least as safe as we can be anywhere. Everyone can rest and heal for a few days. Undoubtedly we will not be returning to the vacation house, our disappearance will hopefully allow things to settle down a bit near the lake. Are you guys gonna be okay with this? There really weren’t many other choices.”

Al responded first, “Why it’s just great, Mom! When can we start looking around? Will they let us remember it?” ...

Barbara sighed, she wished her son had not brought up that issue quite yet, and frankly she was not sure of the answer.

Around them, chaos ensued for only a few minutes as medical personnel swarmed the area, checking everyone out. Bard, Glaboo, Dave and others who were particularly weak or injured, were whisked off for rest and treatment.

Reminding his ‘captor’ of his presence, Peliix squeaked, “I’m not a stuffed teddy bear, you know!” and Al, somewhat embarrassed, realized that he was still holding onto the little alien (quite tightly as a matter of fact.)

Grandpa Joe had a satisfied look on his face, as he took in their surroundings in amazed silence. Amy told their daughter, “Barbara, you probably don’t know it, but your father and I have always fantasized about meeting aliens one day. I can’t say the experience thus far has been very positive, especially having you and Al in so much danger, but I think they just made up for it as far as I’m concerned.” Joe nodded in agreement, and then held out his arm indicating that he expected to be shown around.

Barbara looked around and saw Grrphh approaching. He immediately asked, “Barbara, is everyone okay here – any injuries or problems?”

After they assured him that they were fine, Grrphh told them, “I believe a suite has been arranged for our group! We will all be staying together - does that sound okay to everyone?”

When no one protested, Grrphh continued, “Follow me, then, please. Al, you can put Peliix down if you’d like, but he should hold your had until we get to the room.”

Al nodded, solemnly, and then smiled when his grandfather came up and took hold of his other hand. To his delight, Peanut and Shadow joined them. Silver had gone off after Bard.

Grrphh was not the most voluble or enthusiastic of tour guides, but Al didn’t care, he asked questions non-stop all the way to their rooms. Grrphh was relieved to find John was already there waiting for them, and even more so when Al turned his attention to questioning John. Using that opening as an excuse, the alien left to go find out how the rest of the team was doing.

Grrphh liked Al okay, but he was almost as talkative as the Qwetzles. Well, actually the human wasn’t quite that talkative, nor did he jump around as much, or purposely try to pester him, and he did actually listen to the answers.... Come to think of it, Grrphh reminded himself, it did seem quite a blessing that Tilly and Suli had not managed to be in the midst of things for once.

Back at the lake, the police were called in again, as well as federal authorities. The two men, on whom the Memory Dust had been used, returned to awareness and to town. Their dismay upon realizing that they had lost an entire day fueled the cries for further investigation.

Though the men led police and agents back to the exact spot where they had awoken, there was nothing to be found in the vicinity. In fact nothing substantive was found anywhere, despite the numerous searches, official and unofficial, that eventually descended on the region.

The two men went through several rounds of hypnosis – eventually finding a hypnotist who specialized in recapturing alien abduction memories. The first therapist had produced nothing. Several thousand dollars later, “memories” began returning...

Grrphh almost choked when he saw the two Qwetzles walking down the hall of the O&N Mothership towards him. “Oh there you are!” the two chimed simultaneously. “We were looking for you!”

Taken aback, Grrphh asked rather gruffly, “How ever did you two get here?”

Tilly happily informed him, “Bard sent for us specially, to keep Al company, and he thought we’d be good with Barbara’s parents as well!”

“Everyone remembered how well I did introducing Barbara around the ship when we came up for training,” Suli added, proud to have been singled out to help in this unexpected situation.
