“If a man has an apartment stacked to the ceiling with newspapers we call him crazy. If a woman has a trailer house full of cats we call her nuts. But when people pathologically hoard so much cash that they impoverish the entire nation, we put them on the cover of Fortune magazine and pretend that they are role models.”

All My Aliens - Sci-Fi Soap Opera #104

Serial StoryBy Blue1Moon
Alienlove.com Editor

Grrphh all but growled at the two Qwetzles before sending them on to the suite they were to share with the humans, who were making an unexpected visit to the O&N mothership. Their Team Leader hurried away, glad to have a few moments to himself after the tumultuous events of the past couple days. He planned on talking his time before returning, as he completed a few errands around the ship.

Although Grrphh had been none too welcoming, Al was overjoyed when his two alien friends entered the main room of the shared quarters.

“You’re here too? Wow, that’s great! Now we can have some fun!” Al exclaimed upon seeing Tilly and Suli. While the Qwetzles were certainly not children, they were very light-spirited, energetic and fun. Being child-sized made them seem like children even into their elder years – though these two, in actuality, were barely into adulthood...

Barbara was happy to see them, as well. She and Suli had trained not so long ago on the O&N ship, and Suli had been a great guide and friend. Suddenly the Earth woman felt a bit of the concern that weighed her down, lifting – she knew these two would manage to make her family’s experience here fun and interesting, if anybody could!

Tilly was first to notice Peliix standing near Al, and she immediately grabbed her sister’s hand to go meet him. The former Examinator agent came from a planet quite close to the Qwetzle’s home planet, in fact within the same solar system. The two species normally related well to each other and often enjoyed friendships, sometimes inter-marrying.

Al, proud to tell of his part in the action, informed them, “This is Peliix, he was an enemy, but I been assigned to watch him. I had to watch a whole pack of bad guys for a while – everybody said I was a hero!”

“Really?” asked Suli, “That’s great Al, sorry we missed it – I’m sure you did a fantastic job! We would have been glad to help too!”

Tilly interrupted to speak to the being from the planet Zetlinz, “How could you have been working for the Examinators? You really ought to know better! What is your name? You know the Qwetzles are always willing to help your people through their rather unfortunate adolescence! So what is your story and what are your plans now? Have all the chips been removed from you?”

Peliix found himself smiling, even as he sighed. While Qwetzles might not be his first choice for companions, they were still a lot better than Examinators, and could even be fun. He waited, listening to Tilly’s rant, tapping his foot.

Pausing only a few seconds, Tilly added, “I did ask you several questions! How come you aren’t answering any of them? Maybe I should ask Al to give you a poke and a tickle! Does he know about tickling?”

“Is it actually my turn to talk?” Peliix asked, “You’ve asked seven questions, and made four statements of questionable accuracy. Where should I begin then? My name, as Al knows, is Peliix. I’ll say nothing else until we are introduced, I think. You are rather bossy!” With that, the small alien jumped into Al’s arms and hid his head in the boy’s armpit.

Al couldn’t have been more surprised, Peliix actually seemed to be shaking. Then the human child realized that Peliix was not shaking with fear, but rather with laughter.

Tilly stood there sputtering, “Bossy? Introductions? You really must be kidding!”

Then Al started laughing, “I think he is teasing you Tilly, he’s giggling so hard it’s tickling me!”

Though Tilly still seemed a bit put out, Suli couldn’t help but laugh too, then she reminded Al that he needed to introduce them all.

Putting the little alien down, Al nodded, and said, “Peliix, I would like you to meet my friends, Tilly and Suli. Tilly, Suli, this is Peliix. We captured him on Earth with Gartan, who my Grandpa Joe killed to protect us! Well really, I guess Peliix surrendered after that. Anyway, the Examinators sent them on a ship to Earth to capture my mom!”

“Interesting!” Suli replied, “Hello Peliix. You were with Gartan? He had a run-in with Barbara and I when we were here for training! Was he always an Examinator, or did he defect when he was thrown out of O&N for threatening Barbara?”

“Yes, no, yes” Peliix told her, “At least as far as I know. It’s nice to meet you, Suli.” He turned to look at Tilly and said, “Hello to you too, Tilly. How I got hooked up with the Examinators is a long, sad story. I can tell you that I am glad to be free of them – which is why I gave myself up at the earliest possible moment. Soo... is there anything fun to do on this ship?”

------------

Bird and Bard were sharing a few moments of rest and recuperation in a quiet, park-like section of the ship when another Eldestan joined them, bringing news.
