“If a man has an apartment stacked to the ceiling with newspapers we call him crazy. If a woman has a trailer house full of cats we call her nuts. But when people pathologically hoard so much cash that they impoverish the entire nation, we put them on the cover of Fortune magazine and pretend that they are role models.”

All My Aliens - Sci-Fi Soap Opera #105

Serial StoryBy Blue1Moon
Alienlove.com Editor

Song had returned to the ship with news. Though not much time had passed, there had already been some progress in tracking back Jonglire’s travels over the years he was missing. Thus far, what had been discovered was not good. Apparently he had traveled very far indeed – into the proscribed region, where even Eldestan did not tread. None of the 1,000 World Federation members had the ability to reach the far-flung galaxy, few had ever heard of it, or so it had been thought.

************

“Can we all go exploring, Mom? That would be so fantastic!” Al exclaimed. Grandpa Joe was quick to speak up about his desire to see more of the ship as well.

“Suli and I will be glad to be your guides,” Tilly told them. “That’s why Bard sent for us! I’ve heard he and his sister, Bird, expended most of their energy and need some time to rest. Guess things got pretty awful! But we should try not to think about that now, you all had quite a stressful and dangerous experience too. Time for some fun, right? There are so many things to do on the ship!” ...

“So what do you think, Barbara?” the excited Qwetzle belatedly remembered to ask. “I guess some of you might need some time to rest as well! I didn’t mean to presume.”

Barbara laughed, “Well, I’m sure we are all exhausted, but perhaps not so tired as to pass up a chance to explore! What do you think, Mom, are you up for it?”

Amy smiled and nodded affirmatively. John, who had visited the ship on many occasions, decided to remain in their rooms for the time being. The amenities were quite pleasant.

“May I suggest we bring Shadow and Peanut?" Suli asked. "We could make our first stop somewhere they might enjoy spending some time. I know just the place!” The two 'dogs' barked their agreement.

As the group set off, Al continued his watch on Peliix. After spending some time in a large park-like area, Peanut and Shadow were left to take a swim in a small pond, and the others continued on. Barbara asked, “Is there any chance we can visit our injured friends? I’d enjoy myself a whole lot more if I knew that everyone was okay!”

Tilly assured the Earth woman that all would be fine, and that for the time being Bard and Bird were not to be disturbed, forcing Barbara to acknowledge who she really wanted to visit.

“Well, can we at least check up on Dave?” Barbara tried again, “It would really help set my mind at rest to see for myself how he is doing.”

Tilly and Suli giggled, and winked at each other, then Tilly went to a nearby console and checked on his status and whereabouts. “I think we can manage it, Barbara, in fact, he's not far from here.”

The group took a couple ramps and an elevator and they were there, but not before passing some unmorphed alien species. Joe, Amy and Al stared in unabashed fascination, but the group had not stopped for introductions.

They found Dave floating in a steaming pool, his eyes were closed, pleasant, soothing music played in the background. Al finally giggled, and Dave became aware of them. He smiled warmly, especially at Barbara and assured them all he was fine. He asked about Shadow, and was glad that his friend and Peanut were enjoying themselves. Being medically cleared, Dave was all for jumping out and joining them immediately. After a bit of discussion, it was decided that he would pick up Shadow and Peanut when he was done soaking and meet them back at the suite for dinner.

Tilly and Suli took turns describing some of the entertainment areas of the ship, and Al was allowed to choose their destination.

He didn’t have to think about it for long, “Let’s visit the alien animal environments! I can’t wait to see what kind of animals other planets have. Even the people here are pretty strange!” The child paused for a moment then asked, “What do you guys really look like, Tilly and Suli? Did you have to morph before you came here?”

************

Glaboo had had the foresight to reassign a couple of her already-placed Earth agents to the lake, where the attempted abduction of Barbara and battle with the Examinators had gone down. Rumors in the area of an alien incident had become rampant. The agents quietly entered the house Barbara and her family had been using and made it look like they had been staying for a while. After making some other arrangements and letting themselves be seen for a day or two, they planned on making a public announcement.
