“If a man has an apartment stacked to the ceiling with newspapers we call him crazy. If a woman has a trailer house full of cats we call her nuts. But when people pathologically hoard so much cash that they impoverish the entire nation, we put them on the cover of Fortune magazine and pretend that they are role models.”

Science Fiction

"Critical Evaluation Tests"

I looked out the window this morning and there was a good 2 feet of fresh snow. The wind was blowing and causing huge drifts around the outside doors and I could see it was the kind of day to light the fire and stay inside. But today is the big test day. This morning I plan on a running the first of my devices for an hour or two and analizing the data that's returned. I chug down 2 cups of coffee and head out to the lab....

I've set-up my system to handle the return data feed and store it so that I can analyze it later this eve. I plan to send it instructions and do some comparison testing to see how it reacts to direct commands, pre-planned situations, and unexpected events. Most of this has already been relentlessly tested and retested. Now only remains the actual fine tuning of the visual modules and some pre-determined instruction mods that now and then have some glitches. If I give it a set of GPS coords it has no trouble arriving at it's destination, but it's the step by step after arriving, that becomes an occasional problem.

Occasionally, the visual modules don't respond correctly. Sometimes angling the "eyes" tends to be a bit touchy. The VTS [Visial Tracking System] is not quite perfected yet. I need to work on that ... but its good enough now to test again. Focus causes it's own set of problems but I think I have a handle on that too ... as a matter of fact that's a part of todays tests also.

Tracking systems are on. Visual sensors are on. Sound system is functioning but not turned on. I'm ready to place the bot inside the house. My plan is to track my wife. She should be just getting up now. I'm going to place it on the living room floor, grab another coffee and head back out to the lab and get ready to send and receive the signals designed for the bot.

Now, if I really wanted to track an individual, my HA-PI system (Human Authentication Program Interface) designed for the biometric tracking of people, is more than capable. The HA-PI system requires a piece of analyzable material directly from the person ... like a piece of hair, skin, blood... something it can extract dna data from and set up its tracking mode from there. But today I want mainly to see how my manually controlled functions will work. Hopefully, I'll be in complete control of all manuvers.

I've also recently been working on a new piece for the HA-PI program for the bots. It's a module I named SMT. Basically, it tranfers subliminal messages from the bot to the subject ... hence the name Subliminal Messaging Transference. This works with incredibly low tones, below our normal hearing range, but definitely within our primal hearing range. Sounds humans used to be able to hear but no longer do. If things go well, I may even try that out today. Well ... here we go.

Back in the house, I place the bot on the arm of the couch. As I do, I hear my sweetheart just coming from the bedroom . "Why did you let me sleep so late?. I have things I want to do today". She grabs a coffee and heads towards the bedroom to prepare for her morning shower. I head back out the the lab.

As I sit down at my computer system and check out the returning data ... here are the first images I receive of the bot's view out the windows.

I upload a set of schematics of the house so that the bot has knowledge of where it is and its surroundings. It lays out its own griding system and is now ready to move on command.

I send [commands] to move toward the bedroom door where I figure my wife is getting ready to shower. Here are 2 images taken as it passes through the living room, by the fan and bookcase.

Once it entered the doorway of the bedroom I captured this shot of her sitting on the edge of the bed.

Then on to the bathroom.... and wait.

.... to be continued
