“If a man has an apartment stacked to the ceiling with newspapers we call him crazy. If a woman has a trailer house full of cats we call her nuts. But when people pathologically hoard so much cash that they impoverish the entire nation, we put them on the cover of Fortune magazine and pretend that they are role models.”

Gnosticism: Pre-catholic (c50-c150 CE) Christian theology

Spiritualityby Soulgazer

Some of the ancient Christians used a creation story that explained the imperfect nature of the world we live in. Aside from beautiful sunsets and the panoramic postcard type views set to pretty music that you can find all over the web, the Ancients were also aware that this world is literally a world of death. Nothing lives on this planet without relying directly on the death of something else for it's survival.

The Ancients believed "that art reflects the artist" or "a creation reflects the creator". This world is altogether temporal, where not only does everything on it die or rust or erode, but the very planet and the sun itself, they believed, would one day wink out of existence due to it's temporal and imperfect nature. Therefor, they wrote that it was created by a temporal and imperfect creator.

They also took it a bit further. If the Human being has the possibility of reflecting the "True" God, being created spiritually in God's image, then exploring the very best nature that the human being has to offer, will show the nature of God. ...

They believed of course, that Jesus showed the very best that a human being had to offer (Son of/Perfect image of Man) and so doing, revealed the hereto for hidden nature of God(Son of/Perfect image of God).

Where the duality of man comes in, and they did a tremendous amount of exploration in this regard, was tracking down those desires that come from the temporal or organic nature of Human beings. They may not have known about hormones and adrenaline, but they petty well mapped the effects on human thought and desire. Since the body is altogether subject to time and decay, they reasoned, it was a creation of the lesser god of this world, the carpenter who organized matter into shapes, who was also the chief archon governing the animal(lower) desires that we all knew and pursued in our youth. It was the True God, they believed, that instilled the human creation of the demiurge with the seeds of Divine potentiality, ( Higher reason, Love, Compassion and just being an all around nice person) and this seed, they believed, if properly watered and nurtured, could grow into something eternal, preparing us as children of God to leave the cocoon of matter and emerge as a god who was worthy of his Father.

They also believed that worship in the purest form was emulation. As there was nothing to emulate until Jesus came along, people were unable to truly worship God properly, so they lived in ignorance, fear and confusion. Jesus, by revealing finally the Nature of God, gave everyone something they could emulate, and therefor the possibility of worship "in spirit and truth".
