“If a man has an apartment stacked to the ceiling with newspapers we call him crazy. If a woman has a trailer house full of cats we call her nuts. But when people pathologically hoard so much cash that they impoverish the entire nation, we put them on the cover of Fortune magazine and pretend that they are role models.”

 Niagara Falls, US or Canada?

Travel

By Blue1Moon

My friend and I made a recent trip to Niagara Falls, it was the first time for both of us. When looking for accomadations on-line, I had trouble finding any that were well-rated on the U.S. side, so booked a hotel in Canada. After a longish drive from Vermont, we were more than ready to arrive.

As we approached the Rainbow Bridge into Canada, I understood why I couldn't find a decent hotel on the American side. What a disgrace and embarrassment Niagara, NY was! The town was littered with abandoned buildings, crisscrossed by power lines everywhere, and basically looked like a slum!

After a short border stop, we drove into Canada. What an incredible difference, it was like going from hell to heaven! Every building and street looked clean and new. The historical buildings were beautifully maintained and landscaped. Flowers lined the gorgeous walkways along the Falls, and throughout the town. There was so much to do, we didn't have time to do a tenth of it.

Our hotel room looked out over the falls, the view of both the American and Canadian Falls was breathtaking, I would walk by the window to get the TV clicker and was repeatedly stopped dead by the view, deciding I didn't need TV after all. Rainbows appeared in the afternoon, light shows at night, sun coming up through the mist in the morning, I felt like I was in dream!

A new casino has just been built and another 57 story hotel/casino was quickly going up. Although some restaurant prices were outrageous, most were not. I can't wait to go back. Perhaps this winter (if we can make it through the snow) to see the ice bridge! I would recommend a trip to Niagara, Canada to anyone - just be sure not to stay on the American side.
